I must forsake the lies I have been deceiving myself with.
“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die.” Genesis 3:4
“Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.” 1 John 3:7
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” James 1:22
I must receive the true Gospel of Jesus Christ: The command, promise, and power to live righteously – exactly like Christ – in this present world.
“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearance of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.” Titus 2:11-15
I must believe the promises for deliverance from lust.
“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” 2 Pet. 1:4
“Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to the wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion, and power, both now and ever. Amen.” Jude 24, 25
“Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” 1 Corinthians 7:1
I must abide in the Word.
“…If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31,32
“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.” John 15:5,6
“And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.” 1 John 2:28
I must bear the fruit of my repentance.
“What fruit had ye then in those things whereof you are now ashamed? For the end of these things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.” Romans 6:21-22
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such things there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.” Galatians 5:22-24
