“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus; who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.” (Titus 2:11-15)
What is the Gospel of Christ Jesus really saying to all of mankind?
“For the grace of God has appeared…”
When God came to earth through the birth of His Son, Jesus Christ, He came to show us the way back to eternal life; for man is spiritually dead and doomed, until he believes and obeys Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Today, He has given us His Holy Word – the Bible, and He’s given us His Holy Spirit to teach us how to lay hold of eternal life.
“bringing salvation to all men…”
God calls out to each one of us to turn from our sin and be saved from its consequences. Eternal damnation is the consequence for those who do not know God and those who do not obey the words He spoke.
Church traditions, attendance, water baptism, past commitments, and acknowledgments of God will never save anyone. Jesus said, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me… whosoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save his life” (Luke 9:23,24).
“instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age…”
God came to earth to teach us this: Through His Word and by His Spirit, we have been given the command, promise, and power to put to death the deeds of our sinful flesh and take on His divine nature during our lifetime.
This power is called grace.
“looking for the blessed hope…”
The blessed hope that we are to be looking for is this: Christ’s divine nature becoming fully formed in us.
This hope empowers us to purify ourselves just as He is pure.
“looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior…”
When Christ appears, He will be coming for those who are pure and spotless. We who hope in Him will be exactly like Him – holy as He is holy.
He is waiting patiently for us to listen to and obey His commands, but time is running out…
“who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us…”
Jesus Christ gave his own life to purchase us back from the power of sin. We are redeemed by Jesus when we surrender all of who we are to Him-our minds, our bodies, our agendas, our finances, our futures.
Then we must follow Him in obedience to His Word.
“that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.”
Jesus Christ is holding out His hand to all men.
Whosoever wishes to become His possession, within that person God will create the desire and power to please Him.
Will you hear Him speaking the true Gospel?
There is no other way to eternal life.
“These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.”
